In the “Art and Crafts in Hyogo” section, you can see art pieces showcasing Buddhist culture, paintings, crafts, and other artworks related to Hyogo Prefecture and other areas. In the “Old Life” section, you can explore displays of everyday utensils used from the Edo period to the Showa era(19th-20th century).

This is the mini exhibition room where you can see our collection in various perspectives. We change the displays about four times a year. You can enjoy different exhibitions every time you visit. ※Please note that this space may be utilized as a sub-venue for large-scale exhibitions.
Hands-on Room

This room is dedicated to the theme of a Universal Museum, aiming to be an enjoyable space for everyone. You can enjoy new corners featuring hands-on exhibits and virtual dressing experiences of a court lady costume and a samurai armor on smartphones.
Anatomy of Himeji Castle

You can see exhibits showcasing the East Main Pillar of the World Heritage Site and National Treasure, Himeji Castle's main keep, as well as the shachihoko, which played a crucial role in the repair at the Showa era(1956-64). We recommend visiting this exhibition before exploring the castle.

You can see valuable footage of the major repairs during the Showa era, completed in 1964.

History of Hyogo

In this room, you can see the history from ancient to modern times, encompassing the former five provinces of Settsu, Harima, Tajima, Tamba, and Awaji, which laid the foundation for present-day Hyogo Prefecture. Additionally, you can see the progress of Hyogo Prefecture. ※Please note that this space may be utilized as a venue for large-scale exhibitions.

You can see various locations throughout Hyogo Prefecture during the modern and contemporary periods through the projection of visuals, including antique photographs and picture postcards from The Takahashi Collection.※Please note that this space may be utilized as a sub-venue for large-scale exhibitions.
History of Japanese Children

Japanese anime and manga, which have now gained popularity worldwide, have a rich history dating back to the Edo period. Books and toys for children have existed since then and have served as a reflection of the times. Our museum introduces children's culture from the Edo period to the present, from the "Irie Collection," an extensive collection of children's cultural history materials consisting of over 11,000 items.
Festivals of Hyogo

You can see various festivals and folk performances from different parts of the prefecture, including the 'Kenka Matsuri,' where mikoshi or portable shrines collide vigorously, and the 'Mitsuyama Taisai,' held once every 20 years, with materials, models, and videos.
Encyclopedia of Japanese Castles

You can see all "12 surviving tenshu" (main keeps) and the "Kanei-era Edo Castle Tenshu (3rd generation)" constructed by Tokugawa Iemitsu reprduced at a scale of 1/50. We present various topics related to Japanese castles, including Himeji Castle, through models and panels.
